Unlike the first part of Growing A Farmer, on the second part of the book Kurt talks more progress on his farming experiences. On the second part, Kurt explains the details on raw milk, slaughter animals, and finally his farming success. Kurt's words on telling stories and describing those process are very clear and thoughtful, pictures come to my mind when I read it.

The chapter "Raw Milk" impressed me a lot. Kurt explains all the different procedures that are necessary to the process of getting raw milk. In addition, I didn't know the raw milk that hasn't gone through the pasteurization process contain so much bacteria, which can lead sickness on children. When Kurt realized the seriousness problem caused by "raw milk", he quickly get a legal license for raw milk business. And he explains the requirements for sterilizing raw milk, for example, cooling down the milk below 40 degrees with first two hours when came out from a cow. By reading Kurt's story, I learned a lot agriculture knowledge. Every career has it's own regulations, we want to strictly obey them and do well in our own filed. When Kurt talks about killing animals, I was quite resisted to read about killing. Kurt describes the killing process very detailed for us, which makes me felt so cruel toward these, however, I understand that is how the meat food get on our table. In this way, I kind of understand why vegetarian refuse to eat meat.

From reading this book, I can tell how much the author Kurt Timermeister gone through since he decided to become a farmer. This is not an easy decision to make, and it requires a lot of work and efforts to accomplish this goal. And I think Kurt did make it. In the first part of the book, Kurt constantly telling his failures, I always felt so pity for the bees died and food he wasted. Because my grandparents also grow vegetable and raise poultry when I was young, and they cherish every single ingredients or resources they have, try not to waste or killed any of them. So every time I read Kurt waste or killed any resources including plants, vegetable, fruits, fodder, or animals, I always felt so bad. However, I think that is a necessary for a person to learn how to farm successfully. Finally, when Kurt talks about how he bring the food he raise to the table of his restaurant, I think he accomplished his original intention of why he started farming.

Here, readers increased but sadly, the circulation numbers were lessening. Newsstands could return magazines that were not bought on credit. The decline in circulation meant that Vogue had less prepaid subscriptions. At the time when readers’ interest in the magazine was declining, Conde Nast bought Vogue. His unique experience in the Collier Weekly paper doubled the revenue of Vogue. His long time stay in Home Pattern Company motivated his decision to extend the pattern enterprises of Vogue. He totally reformatted the design, came up with full color back and front color. He even initiated a department in which women could exchange and sell fashion items. In general, he changed the circulation of the magazine, where instead of being produced weekly; it became a semi-monthly magazine focusing on the new formula of the Vogue’s success.
